The design of Electric Pickle is conceived as a hybrid of hospitality and recreation—an environment where architecture choreographs movement between play, dining, and social connection. Anchored by a two-story indoor–outdoor restaurant, the project unfolds across a layered site of courts, cabanas, and open-air gathering spaces, creating a dynamic composition that feels equal parts resort and urban clubhouse. The building itself operates as a porous threshold, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior through expansive openings, terraces, and a second-floor lounge that overlooks the energy of the courts below.
Materially, the project balances durability with warmth—an essential response to both the intensity of Arizona’s climate and the high-traffic of the venue. Powder-coated aluminum screening systems and shade structures provide resilience and performance, while wood-grain finishes and integrated lush landscape soften the experience, introducing a tactile, human scale. The result is a layered palette that feels contemporary yet inviting, where filtered light, shadow, and texture animate the space throughout the day.
At the site level, the design expands into a curated landscape of activity: pickleball courts, cabana dining “casitas,” fire pits, a lawn with a performance stage, and ancillary recreation elements that are artfully woven together into a cohesive social fabric. Circulation is intentionally fluid, encouraging guests to drift between moments of play and relaxation, while maintaining clear visual connections across the entire property. The overall effect is immersive and kinetic—a hospitality environment that embraces the energy of sport while delivering the comfort and sophistication of a destination restaurant.
