Old school redevelopment

Phoenix, AZ

Vital Stats

Opened: 2013

Owned: Wetta Ventures

Size: +/- 9,000 SF

Team: PK Associates, RSP, Chasse Building Team, MSA Engineers, TwinEngine Design, Airpark Signs & Graphics

Completed in 2013, this infill and adaptive re-use project is comprised of a unique 1,700 square-foot drive-thru Starbucks building, and the renovation of two existing buildings from the middle of last century. The freestanding Starbucks building was inspired by the history of mid-century modern architecture in central Phoenix. Clean, modern lines and simple materials are offset by bold ‘scrim walls’ comprised of white masonry. The existing buildings were repurposed, one as a new 4,000 square-foot restaurant (Taco Guild) and the other as 3,500 square-feet of retail shop space.

What people are saying: ‘This is a great example of responsible development, as it retains a piece of Phoenix history while meeting modern needs’ -Tom Simplot, Phoenix City Councilman
