Building Design
Mora Italian in North Central Phoenix is a ground-up building design by Brick & West. The building has been oriented to maximize winter sun and summer shade while creating a modern structure for an upscale restaurant, bar and outdoor lounge.
Located at 7th Street and Montebello, the building is the first ground-up restaurant building along the 7th Street restaurant corridor since the seminal ‘The Yard’ project debuted a few years ago.
Mora Italian carefully folds in inspiration from the area’s mid-century architecture to produce a simple building form with a long front overhang, a raised floor level, and lush garden perimeter.
Interior Design
While many design inspirations come from traditional as well as contemporary Italian influences, the bold design for the interiors again blends mid-century influences to create a compelling experience both in the dining room and on the patio.
The design focuses views toward the dramatic wood-fired pizza oven, imported from Italy. In the front of house, colorful tiles throughout the dining area flank rich wood accents. The decorative lighting is oversized with a mixture of styles from brass to dramatic pendants while the dining tables’ fixed lights are warm and stylish.
The bar creates a dramatic effect with a glass and steel hanging beverage display, dark pendants and expansive seating space as well as marble face and a rich wood bar top. The bar is also accessible from the patio to further connect the indoor environment to the outdoors.
The completely covered outdoor dining area is designed for year-round use. The building has been oriented to utilize the Arizona sun to the greatest advantage in both winter and summer months. Flanking the space is lush landscaping, white brick with large openings each covered by a modern twist on traditional café-style awnings.
